In the early planning stages of a trip down to Austria for the show at Zeltweg in 2019, anyone else planning to attend and/or done the show before? If it's the latter, is it worth the money?

Hi
Yes I did it in June 2009. The show was well worth it for Austrian AF stuff, although incredibly busy with people! We did a 3 or 4 day trip and so took in lots of other airfields and museums. I’ll copy a log across...
Cheers Phil

I’ve added my 2009 log to “Logs from the Old days” if you want a look...

I've not been since the 2005 show when I did a similar trip to Phil but flew in and out of Graz. Certainly did my Austrian AF a power of good. The hills give a good backdrop for photos at Zeltweg but it is very popular with the locals and traffic can be a bit of an issue so early arrival recommended. If you find yourself in Vienna its worth a whizz past the museum at the Arsenal as they have a Draken and a J29 parked outside. If you do go to the museum at Bad Ischl there is, as Phil says, a viewpoint for the stuff in the field out the back. If you turn right out of the museum you will find a road on your right which goes uphill and will shortly offer you a view over those aircraft. Thought of going next year as they didn't have the Eurofighters when I was last there (still Drakens) but will probably go back to Poland and do the Tiger Meet instead. Enjoy the schnitzels!

Thanks David, much appreciated! Due to be flying from Bristol to Graz with KLM via Amsterdam, bizarre way of going about it but, I'm not doing Ryanair- I'd actually like to be able to attend the show. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much in the way of preserved aircraft in Amsterdam, may pop over to Leeuwarden for the gate guards. Heard that from a few people, kicks off fairly early as well by the looks of things! Planning to do a few museums over the course of the week, particularly interested in the fairly large? collection south of Graz and Bad Ischl. Never did catch an Austrian Draken sadly, I'll take the Typhoons though.

Never did catch an Austrian Draken sadly, I'll take the Typhoons though. We saw 8 preserved in 2009. And Dave mentions another one in Vienna to find, so you can still catch quite a few! I saw quite a lot of them at Waddington on deployments, and then filled a few gaps in Austria. im very tempted to go back to Zeltweg in 2019 to see some more of their Typhoons whilst they still have them!

Completely forgot about that, haha! Won't have time to catch the one in Vienna sadly but, seven will do. One of the reasons I've decided to attend, missed them and the C-130 at Leuchars in '13. Last opportunity to catch them in 2019, sadly.
