I just checked the CAM link. Well, my first CAM was the '58 edition, with the Twin Pioneer (modern aircraft) on the cover. Thereafter kept going untl '67 (Skyvan cover). I lived just round the corner from Luton Airport. So the entries are scarce on LAP. Mainly light airshows and Farnborough. Latest effort is to build the collection of old CAMs so I'm back to '53. Should say I'm based in Toulouse - 30ish years with Airbus, now retired.

Hi and welcome Ed, great to have you aboard with us here on AFA. My first CAM was a decade later than yours, 1968 with the Jetstream on the cover. The Brit register ended with G-AVYZ, a Laker BAC 1-11. I have them all except the 1953 edition, plenty of reprints out there but few originals and when you do see one, they are more than a few quid. Thanks for joining us.

Hello Graham !
Check out the Amazon bookstore, but there are no real details on the '53 CAM (whether annotations etc or not). Also worth having is the TAHS 'Civil Aircraft Registers of Great Britain' Aviation Hobby Shop, West Drayton. As a purist, I just have Vol 1 G-EAAA to G-AZZZ. My edition 1999 and they give a phone 01895 442123, mail tony@thas.demon.co.uk

Thanks for the info Ed. I've sent you a PM by the way. I've picked up quite few old books over the past few years, mainly from Ebay. On checking, I do have the 1953 CAM, by all accounts the very first edition was printed in 1950, and that lasted for two years until the 1953 edition was published in 1952. So it's the 1950 one I'd like to complete the set. Quite amazing when you look at the rather skinny editions of the 50s and 60s compared with the chunky tomes of the 90s and noughties.
We have a very good second hand bookstore at the local market here, and recently I've picked up the 1961 and 1962 "Civil Aircraft Recognition" for a quid each, both in very good condition. I also found for a quid the 1956 "British Military Aircraft".

Hi Graham, Haven't seen any message yet I'm afraid ... small nugget, my father built pretty well all of Taylor Monoplane G-BDNG and figures on the LAA website. Were you lightplane or commercial ?? Cheers, Eddy
