The wife and I decided we would like to get out of the house as it was a relatively sunny day. So, we decided to go down to Yeovilton and see what gives, as I haven't been spotting there for nearly 35 years.
Not a lot as it turned out . Not an AH.1 in sight and only one Merlin!!!!!! Nothing on South side either - not even a Grob. I know they are packing up at noon on Friday (until 09.15 on Monday 08/01/2018), but this was ridiculous!!
Anyway, for what it was worth, what was logged from 13.00 - 13.30
Outside the Stockwitch end hangars:-
ZZ534 Wildcat HMA.2
ZZ380 Wildcat HMA.2
ZZ528 Wildcat HMA.2
ZZ413 Wildcat HMA.2
ZZ377 Wildcat HMA.2
Central Apron:-
(ZJ126)/K Merlin HC.2............."CDO577" landed around 13.25
Gate:-
ZD578/122 Sea Harrier F/A.2
Dump (reading from left to right from Pyle Lane):-
(WV911)/C-115 Sea Hawk FGA.6
(XW630) Harrier GR.3
(XZ674) Lynx AH.7
(XZ719)/(645) Lynx HMA.8SRU.........................................on its side
(773) Sea King Mk. 47 ex Egyptian Navy..........pastel green primer, on its side
(XS513) Wessex HU.5.............................................sandy camo.
To see the Sea King and Wessex, you have to go right down Pyle Lane almost to the gate at the bottom. They are invisible from the top or the slight pull-in halfway down.
So, the four that I knew that I would make (the dump) plus one measly Wildcat. Oh well.
To console ourselves, we stopped off at the Farm Shop café at Pylle on the A37 for a late lunch. Excellent quality and quantity, although slightly expensive.
