Let's hope that the rot mentioned in the artical can be stopped and, if necessary, repaired. It would be great if G-BOAB can be put on proper public display. After all, when there were roof gardens at LHR, they were always full with members of the public eager to see Concorde take off & land. Often us enthusiasts, especially those of us with radios, were asked when a Concorde was due to take off or land.

Remember those days well Phil, I used to have a Waltham 1049 airband receiver which was always tuned to the tower when I was sat atop the Queens Building. Great memories. Here's an ad for one from the very early seventies, as you can see they were the better part of £30, not much these days but a fortune for a young teenage kid earning a few bob each week doing chores. Just scroll down beneath the front cover photo. www.scribd.com/doc/51791763/Aircraft-Illustrated-1970-08

I fear the only way public will get access to BOAB is if its cut up and reassembled off site somewhere

I've had a few airband radios but one my favourites was a sharpe model. It had a very good clear sound. I think the model name was 'Super Sensitive'. It was what I used to pick up trails on in the 1980s. Another one I had was from 'Tandy' (UK's 'Radio Shack). I'd have one on the westbound frequency (133.6) and the other on the eastbound (127.1 or 134.9). If I was at LHR, those were the days when you could go down below into terminal 2 at the end of the day and some of the airlines would put the flight number through their computers & come up with the reggie for you, so you didn't have to wait a month for the vext edition of Air Scotland for that day's flights!
