Thanks for this - very interesting. I've never even heard of this aircraft before and can't recall seeing it in numerous books I have on aircraft. For some reason (and ignoring the wing), the fuselage and engine layout remind be a bit of the Convair B-58 Hustler but having Googled it I can see there is no connection.

I, too, was thinking Convair - but the 880.
The trouble with the McDonnell 220 was that it was designed for the USAF competition that the (already established as a biz-jet) Lockheed Jetstar won. McD then wasted a lot of time trying to sell it to airlines. With the introduction of the North American Sabre-40 (and -60), Lockheed and NA had already cornered the infant market by the time that this marketing video was produced.
The aircraft is registered N4AZ and, I believe, is stored at El Paso, TX

Looks rather like a DC-8 that's gone into the washing machine at too high a temperature and has shrunk
