Way back in May 2018, following a list from Graham, I (and Chrisj) posted comments on some of the Canadair Sabres noted in the Lasham yard. At that time I could confirm all but 6 on Graham’s list as being there. With the individual aircraft record cards now being available I took a look at those relating to these 6 (and some of my own queries).
23431 & 23659 were indeed Europe based machines but were both struck off in June 1957. As SAL at Prestwick collected the Sabres that were finally withdrawn from Europe in the sixties (with some passing to Staravia) I doubt that these aircraft would have been part of that operation unless for some reason SAL stored them for some 5 or 6 years before selling them for scrap (unlike most others, the cards for these 2 do not refer to them being retired to Prestwick). I didn't note either of them in the store at Prestwick in 1962, but it's possible I suppose they could have survived for that long. I wonder if 23659 could be a mis-pole for 23658 which was retired at Prestwick in September 1963. 23549, 23606, 23632 are confirmed as withdrawn at Prestwick so are likely contenders for Lasham. 23581 was a Europe based machine but crashed in February 1957 after the pilot ejected so not a Lasham contender.
