The engine management warning light - and message - seem now to have rectified themselves. It was a blocked DPF (diesel equivalent of the catalytic converter) and associated sensor. Some cleaning gunk in the fuel tank has now worked its way through and all seems fine now - fingers crossed.
So, a week later than normal, and a fortnight later than originally intended, it is up to the 'Hall tomorrow (23rd) for my autumn stay. I don't seem to have missed too much (the "AZ" F-16s plus an "FT" HC-130J) and it looks like I will still get two of the three ANG F-15Cs that I needed.
Will be in John's Field as usual - on the rank by the road - if anyone would like to pop in.......

Thanks, chaps.
Phil ("zz"), please note that the "LN" 494FS F-15Es are due back in October (your last four/five(?) and my last one). Watch out for the "MO"s (I assume) to come across.

Monday 25th September 2018
And so we finally made it!! Lots of visiting aircraft greeted us - and we had missed a couple (been and gone).
Mildenhall Visitors 58-0121 KC-135R 465ARS/AFRC...……….the current TDY "NACHO" on Hs35 62-3506 KC-135R 174ARS/Iowa ANG 73-00991 C-130E Turkish AF...…………….."Turkish Stars" scheme 89-0510 AC-130U 4SOS...………………..now parked on Hs32 (or 33) in the extreme SW corner 62-3582/OF WC-135C 55Wg...………………….."Constant Phoenix" 58-0058 KC-135T 171ARW/Pennsylvania ANG 62-3538 KC-135R 92ARW N86 CL601 FAA 64-14848/OF RC-135V 55Wg 59-1470 KC-135T 92ARW
Arrival 16.54BST "DUNA95" 73-1217 C-12C US Embassy Budapest
Although I knew it was coming, that C-12C was a real bonus.
Off to Lakenheath tomorrow to get the two ANG F-15Cs that I need as they depart. I shall check the returning F-15s in the afternoon to make sure they are what they are supposed to be (and that 98-0132 doesn't sneak back!!)

Tuesday 25th September 2018
Lakenheath Went here to see the "RETRO"s depart (to make sure of the serials) - but they cancelled - and witnessed 14 F-15 departures in 40 minutes:-
10.48BST "DEATH11" Flight F-15C 84-0019, 84-0001, 86-0154, 86-0175 10.58BST "SLAM31" F-15E 91-0302 11.00BST "CHOSEN3" Flight F-15C 86-0159, 86-0172, 84-0046(F-15D) 11.16BST "MAD11" Flight F-15E 96-0205, 91-0317, 91-0318 11.25BST "CHOSEN1" F-15C 86-0160 11.27BST "CHOSEN6" F-15C 86-0156 11.28BST "SLAM32" F-15E 91-0334
Went back in the evening for:-
Arrival 19.10BST "RG01" 162171/51 C-2A VRC-40...……...off CVN-75 USS Harry S. Truman...……..correct serial despite ADS-B showing it as 162172.
Departure 20.30BST "RG01" 162171/51
I have no doubt that there will be quite a few more (daily?) visits from the C-2 over the next couple of weeks. There should have been the other one (162144/55) as well, but it is thought to have gone "tech" at Oslo.
Mildenhall Got back from the morning Lakenheath visit to find two extremely pleasant surprises (one already in and the other on its way)
Arrivals 11.39BST "KING39" 92-2104 HC-130N 39RQS/AFRC 11.56BST "RCH1018" 08-0809 U-28A 319SOS 12.09BST "RCH1016" 05-0556 U-28A 319SOS 12.14BST "ABX2270" N312AA B762F ABX Air 12.27BST "RCH404" 58-0018 KC-135RT 22ARW...…………….diversion 15.27BST "MRH87" ZM147 F-35B 617 Sqdn 19.58BST "RCH201" 03-3117 C-17A 183AS/Mississippi ANG 20.32BST "MRH99" ZM14? F-35B 617 Sqdn
Departures 09.13BST "TUAF407" 93-00991 09.58BST "RCH184 59-1470 10.02BST "FLC86" N86 15.39BST "ABX2270" N312AA 20.03BST "RCH1005" 89-0510
The U-28As and their top cover HC-130N abandoned their Northbound trip from Prestwick to Keflavik (due to high winds??). But why return further South to Mildenhall?!?!. Anyway, definitely not grumbling, seeing as I had written them off as missed when they bypassed the 'Hall from Stuttgart.
A very pleasing day.

Wednesday 26th September 2018
A day of surprises:- 1.) Made two before I got up. Not strictly correct as I had to actually get up to see the 1st one which came in as I was still asleep. Peered out of the "pit" window for the 2nd. Apparently these two HC-130Js were due into Prestwick, but one of them developed a problem and they diverted into Mildenhall.
2.) The HC-130N & U-28As departed as expected....and then returned about 5 hours later with the Herc sporting a shut down engine.
3.) Four French Alpha Jets dropped into Lakenheath for the night.
Lakenheath Went to Lakenheath again to see the "RETRO" F-15s, but I departed before they put in an appearance (at well gone midday)......and then taxied back again!! The following launches were observed:-

Another slight frost this morning!!
All six Saudis departed Lakenheath together with a Mildenhall-based tanker to see them down to the Med. Obviously their KC-10 was still feeling unwell. The "SW" F-16 departed to join up with the 1st cell of the "WI" F-16s going home from Poland. The P-3 departed this afternoon.
Nothing else happened except two based tankers returned from Spain and a third one came back from its "Evac" duty, so full house now of 14 tankers (the replacement for 61-0321 is expected in the coming week).

Not a lot to be said for today.
Of the active based stuff "QID612" KC-135R 58-0100 departed with the hose & basket attachment out of its boom. It was going out over the North Sea to refuel F/A-18s from the "Truman". Bet they loved that arrangement.......not!!

By the time I got back from Lakenheath and sorted everything out, it was just too late. So apologies to those who missed their bedtime reading!!
Thursday 4th October 2018
What a day!! Thanks to Ollie for the heads up on the F/A-18s. I missed the first two pairs landing, but fortunately saw them doing their run & break before landing. Was parking the car as the 2nd pair actually landed.
The Italians returning from Icelandic policing duties at Keflavik was sheer bonus

Not a lot of visitor movement today but still managed two nice ones for the spreadsheets.
Mildenhall Arrivals 08.46BST "RCH458" 02-1110 C-17A 62AW 11.08BST "VVPR326" 157326 EP-3E VQ-1
Departures 08.10BST "SNOOP56" 64-14848 09.58BST "RCH292" 02-1110...…………………………………….to Lakenheath (note callsign change)
Lakenheath Lots of activity from the Hornets and the Raptors today together with the based stuff. Apparently there were 31 launches this morning and some more this afternoon.
Arrival 10.17BST "RCH292" 02-1110 C-17A 62AW...……...from Mildenhall
Overflight This was really "jammy" as it was given direct to MAM (Marham), but appeared to track from Norwich direct to WD3 (near Ramsay), so very much South of expected routing. It was descending to go through the Daventry corridor to Brize Norton.
"KHALID1" Pakistan Army G450 4270 at 14.40BST at approx. FL140 descending to FL100.

Which leaves us with the unusual occurrence of Mildenhall's only visitors being three RC-135s - all of different types.
High winds forecast for tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully anything decent will appear during the morning. We don't want the good stuff diverting. LOL.
