Could have been a good day yesterday heard 5 that would have gone in the book, then spent an hour trying to explain once again to my wife that ‘No i cant put them down as she will not tell anyone’ that thats so wrong!!!
One i did see between the clouds was D-ALOA EMB135 of Air Hamburg.
It’s going to be a better day today as the sun is out and already 2 have gone in to the book.

Yet again, just the one for me yesterday, that being the French Bee A350 F-HREN which pretty much flew across the top of the house en route to France.
Today started with a double whammy, two Delta A339s, one in either direction within a couple of minutes of each other and both trailing, N403DX heading east and N401DZ heading west, seen them all now up to N408DX, 409-417 are still being built

Very brief spell of blue over the Shropshire hills this morning. Just one seen through high thin cloud
N29975 B787-9 United AL s/b 09:10 DEN - FRA
Then a surprise this afternoon when 2-LOUD Alouette 2 (ex A79 Belgian Army) flew northbound in the company of G-KNYT R44. Very lucky to see them as I was out in the garden.

Apart from Global N154QS with a faint trail, the only items of interest were BA machines A350 G-XWBH and B777 G-STBO. Just STBP to catch now.n

Yesterday was good, picking up Delta A330-900 N408DX trailing nicely, as did TC-LSO, a nice gap filler. Then my last Ukrainian E190 UR-EMC left Gatwick and kept below the clouds as it passed. But strangest of the day was Chinook ZH903, which was audible whilst over Canary Wharf, some 12-13 miles away, and before it became visible. Would I have heard it from that distance before lockdown?

First of the year for me, small clear spot allowed for a decent visual:

Phil, it's been similar here in Devizes, I was walking the dogs a few days ago when I heard the unmistakable sound of a Chinook hovering albeit some way away. I had a look at the VRs on my mobile and both PlanePlotter and Freedar confirmed that the only Chinook anywhere was about 8-9 miles to my south on the Salisbury Plain ranges. Maybe the fresh southwesterly helped?

When I first started spotting in the 60's I lived in St Helens, Lancs and would be able to hear Viscounts on the ground at Liverpool-Speke Airport, usually on a Sunday when the background noise was very low. That was quite a distance probably around 15 miles.

Yet again, a solitary pot yesterday, this being the RSAF A330 2401. Nothing today yet. I can't remember a worse start to the year really

Not aviation- but may impact on a lot of our plans for 2021- Glastonbury has been cancelled again- suppose a no brainer really with the amount of people who attend. Stay safe Bob

Morning Bob, I really do fear that this year looks set to map out very much the same as 2020, We had three holidays cancelled last year, so, feeling totally peed off, in September 2020 we took a chance and booked a week's stay in Cornwall for late April this year thinking that, in seven months' time, things might be easier but the booking agent emailed us yesterday evening to say that in his opinion, there was little hope of the holiday materialising. So, we have cancelled the fourth holiday in 12 months rather than cough up the balance in a few weeks' time and still be unable to go.
We had one hell of a job getting our money back from a booking agency with whom we'd booked a cottage in Cornwall for last November. I feel so sorry for anyone involved with the tourism and hospitality industries, they've probably suffered more than most, but this chap reckoned he was entitled to keep our money until " such a time when things got better after which you can rebook" even though his T & C's mentioned no such thing, and as such, it took a very heavy email and the threat to write about our issues on Trip Advisor that he backed down and returned our money.
To be honest, I think we are in for the long haul this time, with lockdown likely to continue until a sizeable proportion of the population has been vaccinated or, if by some miracle, people do comply with the restrictions and we see a dramatic downturn in new cases.

Fully agree Graham- we had two holidays booked last year- and due to Covid moved them to this year, the 1st due to go in May which after listening to Boris and the Scientists etc does not look likely to materialize. Also a few concerts last year which were also moved to 2021- again looks like they may be cancelled again following the cancellation of Glastonbury- The people who do not heed the advice given to them, need to have a very hard look at themselves- just found out this afternoon after I got home from work- a lad I used to work with passed away last night with Covid- a great lad- it is when you get news like that- that this virus brings it home to you. Stay Safe Bob
