The only good thing about the amount of cloud cover these last few days is lessening the effects of the heatwave around here and keeping things mercifully cool at night. Wall to wall cloud again today so far, and a lowly 16c at present but assured it will be 37c by Tuesday.

Just the one for me yesterday and that was a scrape. Today is wall-to-wall sunshine and we're preparing for the next three days. Mattress from the spare room has come downstairs so we can sleep in the lounge with the patio doors open, let's just hope the dogs don't find a hedgehog at 3am.....;0)

Great day today. A 5am start for RIAT (after getting home from football at Southampton at 11pm the night before!), in the queue around 6.20 and into the airfield around 7.35. Made about 80 at Fairford! Some excellent stuff in the static and the flying display. Well done to the organisers and all volunteers!
Afterwards went to Kemble and saw the 3 airliners I needed there. Then onto Oxford, where I guess I needed about 10, including G-PFTA, B, C, D, E.
A quiet day needed on Sunday before another manic week starts on Monday!

Woke in the night feeling a bit rough, and now tested positive for Covid after having avoided it for 2 1/2 years. Half a day in bed with man flu symptoms and already feeling a lot better, hope that's me done with it but we'll see. Doesn't stop me from going to the garden but it's extremely hazy today.
Not much to show for last couple of days as been pretty busy with other things.

Well finished my log for RIAT and shock horror made 155 which I was well pleased highlight was the Balloon I got whilst having a meal in the restaurant at Evesham- only joking the Korean's by a country mile- anyway after getting home Sunday managed a respectable 8:- OK-AST- C560 inbound LPL CC-CXK- 767 Latam eastbound F-HREG F900 westbound D-CFAZ- Lear jet 60 southbound D-CJMS- PC24 southbound D-AIEJ- A321NX Lufthansa west to DUB LX-PCG- PC24 southbound JA933A- 787 ANA southbound Deke- it got you- that damn Covid my nephew and his wife and son got it after two and a half years- they were the same as you flu like symptom's but basically ok. I am still testing myself every week and me and the bride always wear masks in the shops and even when we went to the pictures to see Top Gun the other week. You can be as safe as possible but you only have to be stood next to some brain donor to catch it. I think they will bring mask wearing back when the new PM and his or her cabinet get sorted out after their summer recess. But that is as far as I think they will go- in any case the public won't take any notice anymore. Anyway onwards and upwards and Happy days Bob

Hot Monday- in between a hospital visit, shopping and doing my RIAT log managed another four- and in the end the heat and the haze beat me so I gave spotting up for the day and watched some TV. N555GA- G650 southbound G-REXB-B200 north to Leeds N585RM- G550 southbound JA842J- 787-8 JAL southbound Hot again today Tuesday- so Sky and BBC and all the other TV news programmes will be talking about global warming and how many people will die because of the heat in years to come- and rail tracks bending - I remember in 1976 when we had about 8 weeks of solid sunshine and the weather was in the 30's no social media then - the only thing that happened was a hosepipe ban. Anyway the rain is back on Thursday so they will have to talk about something else. Happy Days Bob

Yep I agree we are defo a world of wimps. Never happy when its cold, never happy when its hot, never happy when its overcast, raining and windy. It's a weather pattern we've experienced many times in the past, counter rotating areas of low pressure pulling up hot sub Saharan air. We were in Crete in 2004, a similar weather pattern built up, and we endured three days of 47C. It was too hot to swim in the sea, because you dried off as soon as you came out of the water and the sea salt made your skin burn if you didn't shower it off immediately. But everyone over there copes with it, they stay indoors, they drink loads of water and no one ever dies from it.
The press and media delight in whipping up these frenzies, blaming global warming when it's nothing of the sort. Now, I'm not saying global warming as such doesn't exist but ten thousand years ago the UK was covered by a hundred feet of ice, the planet warms up and cools down over regular cycles

Having made just over 100 at RIAT, and taking into account entry fee plus petrol costs, I reckon it costs about 50p per frame to follow our hobby. Has anyone else done a Cost Benefit Analysis?

My mate and I always talk about “a pound a pot”! If you do better than that you had a good day and good value! Making 80 at RIAT works out about right, when you take into account ticket price, fuel, drinks. Making a few overflights plus some at kemble and Oxford increased the value!! However, when we realised we’ve both seen over 100,000 we decided we probably shouldn’t think too deeply about the costs incurred over the years!!
