Spectacular until lunch time, and then normal service resumed, clag and rain all the way, but made hay while the sun shone, and then a very brief break after dark which soon closed up again.

Afternoon guys,
We, Dave (Basing) and Sean (Osprey 65) had a great day out last Thursday touring some of East Anglia's RAF bases. Weather wasn't too bad but gradually towards the end of the day it deteriorated and ended up pissisting down all the way back!!! However, if you haven't been up there recently, this was my first visit to all of the bases - please take it from me, there is a lot to see and enjoy....
Here's my log for the day.

Star of the day was UR-CBG AN-12 routing SNN-CAI, droned by at FL200 below the thin clouds. LHR on 09 all day but very little of interest, just made SE-ROA 320N SAS. One more, EI-FVU 738 Norwegian heading back to Norway from the Canaries.
(edit) Forgot to mention N322UP 767F UPS, enormous gap filler heading PHL-CGN. My database shows UPS as owning N363UP which they acquired from JAL earlier in the year, but I have not been able to trace any flights for this so it may still be undergoing freighter conversion. If so, I now have the whole current UPS 767 fleet.

Hi Bill, yes it'll be great to meet up with you and the other AFA-ers who are heading for Lyneham. Had you thought about doing a couple of the local fields afterwards at all? Yatesbury isn't far but it isn't necessarily open every day, but there are 20 or so based there plus a few wrecks scattered around the outside of the hangar. Clench Common is a few miles south of Marlborough and although it has seen a few residents relocating to other fields recently, there are still a few there.

3 days of cloud and haze meant nothing OTT, and I could not even see LHR 09 approaches (not that there was much to see apart from OH-LWL 350 this morning). Just one redeeming feature, ZJ196 Apache heading east along the Thames this afternoon.
