Back after two days in London, didn't make much at LCY, just a couple but due to a much earlier that expected finish, spent three hours yesterday afternoon logging LHR inbounds. Then today, day two finished earlier than expected so parked up on the A4 at Colnbrook and spent another hour logging inbounds. Looks like I've potted about a hundred but before the cries of "slack bugger" start, bear in mind that I don't get to LHR very often at all so have plugged some major holes in various fleets. I'll post log later...;0)

Went to the ExCel for a big trade show but left there at 2.30pm and went to the hotel we had booked in Dartford where loads of stuff was going over inbound to LHR, plus saw a good few outbounds that were heading for the Continent or further afield. Only made two at LCY, the rest from LHR

I didn't even know there was a visitors centre at LHR Bob. To be honest though, on the first afternoon, I didn't fancy driving from the ExCel to LHR and then all the way back to Dartford. Skies were blue and Dartford was an great spot to see the inbounds, I took the bins and FR24 on the mobile.

The visitor centre is on the North side next to the Renaissance Hotel. There is a cafe to the East of it or you can use the Taxi Rank cafe. The 'facilities' at the visitor centre are closed at weekends. It's best if they are on 27 as you can monitor both runways easily.

I did go onto the A4 at Colnbrook, but on day two as I was on my way home and knew that really, I only had about an hour to spare so was quite content to sit in the layby by the DHL depot.

Next time, as you are a photographer try...... At the huge new traffic light junction before you get to DHL (from London on the A4)turn left. Half a mile to the next roundabout, turn right, half a mile go over the motorway and halfway down the bridge take the left into a small housing area. There's a small service road turn left & park. You can walk up the bridge & get shots similar (but on the other side of the aircraft) to what you would get by the parking spot on the dual carriageway by terminal 5. (assuming they are landing on 9 left, that is) Hope it's good for you, and have fun Terry

We go to the visitors centre too Bob, sometimes we park outside the Academy (by the shop) too. Have been marking in my new LAAS 2015 Civil aircraft register, thanks to my Grandad for that Dylan

Ive never found the visitor centre much good for views unless you have an sbs in the car...the A4 flyover at Colnbrook is good for 09 arrivals and reggie are easily pottable with even a small pair of bins...of course as Graham was on his wat home a stop at the A4 was a lot easier than negotiating the wonders of LHRs perimeter road :-)

With a pair of Binoculars and a radio there is no need to miss anything from the Visitor Centre. It also has toilets, and access to food and drink nearby. Can you see departures off 09R or arrivals on 27L from the A4? If not, then knowledge of the Visitor Centre might be useful. It's not much use for photographs, admittedly.

I was just trying to help Graham, who didn't know it existed. I've been in the Visitors Centre on days when you could barely see the runway in front of you, so you'd see b***er all if you were off-airport!

Just made one yesterday but well worth the wait, A320 of Air Corsica F-HBEV routing Dublin - Ajaccio which passed over within a couple of miles of the house. Today has started well with B767 N329UP heading west, a very large hole filler

Off to Cyprus tomorrow. Last flight was from Dubai with Emirates in Business class. This time it's Easyjet from Gatwick so it's back to a cheese sandwich and a can of Cola. Hope fully I'll manage a couple of visits to Larnaca which I'll post on here.

After 4 days of not seeing anything let alone making anything I now have two in the book for today:
G-VZIG B787 Virgin Atlantic C-GPPX GBX 6000 (looked as though it was inbound Farnborough)
Have a good day all.

First sunshine here for several days, but very hazy. LHR using 09 so would normally be able to see approaches, but haze too bad, have already missed needed 787s G-VZIG and VT-ANT. Hoping for some OTT pots this afternoon as still have only 12 for March.

Been a good day so far with 3 more added: A40-BY B737 Oman Air (delivery flight) C-GJDR Challenger 300 EI-FIE B737 Ryanair (I missed this earlier today as it routed Rome-Dublin but it has just gone back in the opposite direction).
