hi, just had a e-mail about this, not seen it mentioned anywhere, but if it has please excuse... it said the anniversary theme is the 75th of the USAF, plus the Operations theme is Training and the Next Generation airforce, besides those 2 there will be a focus on Her Majesty the Queens Platinum jubilee and sustainable aviation.
So everything crossed, honours to the weather God, and no cancellations...
regards, dave...
ps, i read somewhere and its very true that "without guns and bombs, the USAF would be the largest flying club in the world"
happy days...

I applied for tickets for the Open Golf at St Andrews that weekend, but an e-mail from the R & A yesterday informed me that I had been unsuccessful- so it was on the RIAT website and booked two tickets for the Saturday at Fairford, plus I booked our accommodation. Lets just hope it goes ahead. Happy Days Bob

I just had a look at the official RIAT site and ticket prices ! As expected the price has been hiked up to over sixty pounds for saturday with no sign of a reduction for early booking . Sunday is just under sixty but this is only a five pounds reduction for a limited time ! Personally I feel it is a little early to commit as the latest CV19 variant gathers pace . IF the show goes ahead , I wonder how many overseas visiting aircraft will be able to attend ? Sorry for the gloom but just being cautious . Chrisj

If I go, then I will consider going on the Monday for departures. But I am waiting to see what happens with COVID. I will also wait to see what other countries start to commit, if anything. If anyone is ex Forces then you can get a discount on tickets (probably only on Sunday) using the Forces Discount Card.

Yes, July is only seven months away, just as we seem to to be winning small battles in the war with Covid and the booster jab programme gathers pace, along comes a new variant that potentially could see 2022 go the same way as 2021 and 2020. There seems to be conflicting views as to the danger from this omicron variant and the efficacy of existing vaccines to counter it.

Yes it is , I feel , a case of wait and see - but only a short wait ! I understand that we should know more about the latest CV19 in a few weeks when our elected masters may come up with a plan (?) . I have tried the departures monday and have mixed feelings on it . Also Farnborough to consider this year - IF it goes ahead and no public days . Chrisj

Well decided to get my tickets with the money I saved with the Golf which would have been £90 each. Also my hotel for two nights is one I can cancel 24 hrs ahead and have only have to pay on the day. Also if it does go ahead which I believe it will and entry allowed only if you are quadrupled jabbed lol - I did not want to get caught up in the mad rush for tickets and the subsequent moans and groans when people were unsuccessful. Waste of time worrying though at the moment, the BBML Inflation day and Popham are the first ones to worry about. Regarding the ticket prices- everywhere is kicking the backside out of events and accommodation - you just have to look at the prices for holidays. If it is cancelled again- no doubt I can use them in 2023 as I will be retired then. Just got to keep positive and keep the faith- and don't let that buffoon in No 10 get you down. Happy Days Bob

That's very true Bob, I cover Cornwall for my company, I haven't been down there for two years what with all this Covid crap, I have two big customers down there who we usually give a bottle of wine and some chocolates as a "thank you" for their business, but I can't find a room anywhere around the Looe/Polperro area where I usually stay. I did find a B & B in Looe, a place I have stayed before for £60 a night who wanted £130 for one night next week. Trouble is there's a queue of people who are so desperate for some time away that they will pay it. My company would pay for it but it's a rip off and I decided not to take the room.

hi, nothing official yet, so don't shoot the messenger, but on faceache its saying the Black Eagles of the R of Korea AF. are due to appear at Southport, RIAT, and Farnborough, I remember seeing these in 2012 at Waddington, along with the RSAF Hawks, as were the Turkish AF NF.5's in 2010, and not forgetting the Indian AF det. in 2007, those were great catches for the Waddo team...
we shall have to see, regards, dave...

Yes the Black Eagles have self confirmed for RIAT. Nothing from RIAT themselves yet, but hopefully on today’s update…. They were excellent to watch in 2012, but for ATC they were a nightmare. They had an interpreter in the tower, and if I were being kind, I would say that they didn’t understand ATC instruction, rather than ignored them. This led to a few interesting moments!
If the Red Arrows aren’t allowed to put on a full display at Farnborough now, it surprises me that the Black Eagles will be displaying there.
If they do come, they should bring at least one different aircraft to their last visit, as they wrote one off in 2014.

No Black Eagles announcement today
Latest update - 19th May 2022
First up this week, we're pleased to announce the 48th Fighter Wing will be supporting this year's Air Tattoo in style. As well as a Strike Eagle from each squadron, this will be the first time seeing their new Lightnings on static display at RIAT. In addition, we are discussions with a number of other United States Air Force units who hope to participate at RIAT 2022, with the approvals process ongoing. The Irish Air Corps celebrates their Centenary this year, and to mark the occasion will be sending a fourship display of their Pilatus PC-9M aircraft to perform in the flying display, in a reformation of their Silver Swallows Display Team. We're pleased to welcome them to RAF Fairford, with their participation also very appropriate for our training theme. Despite the Polish Armed Forces being at extremely high alert and all of their aircraft fleets operating at high intensity, we are honoured that they are still keen to participate at RIAT. They will be sending an M28 Bryza for static display, joining our growing selection of maritime patrol aircraft on static display at the show. Finally this week, additional civilian operated aircraft join the static displays. Hawker Hunter Aviation will bring their Hunter T72 for its first RIAT appearance and Embraer their Super Tucano for exhibition as a showcase display.

Great support from Italy. I got our Saturday tickets yesterday as I need a serious proper aviation fix after 3 years!! Despite the increase in price - I still reckon it's a bargain compared to Silverstone for the F1GP! Cheers Keith

Cheers Keith Its looking good Keith, and the updates on RIAT says there is a lot more to come- and that they are considering extending the flying display to accommodate the aircraft. Nearing 200 already fingers crossed for in excess of 300. Happy Days Bob

Let's hope so Dave, the forecast here for this four day holiday was clear and sunny for all four days, we had some sunshine yesterday morning, today has been dull, cool and cloudy with a few showers and tomorrow and Sunday look even worse. Makes me wonder how the weather men get it so wrong for most of the time.
