Hi folks I hope you all had/will have a great day at Fairford. I went today (Saturday) - left home at 0550 and was parked up by 0620. Given that gates were not open till 0730 I had breakfast in the car till about 0745 - a possible mistake as the queue by then was several fields back - so I bunked in claiming I had to nip back to the car for something. Anyhow - great to see the Doomsday 747 and the Black Eagles were just as good as before and probably deserve a trophy. I have to agree with Jeff on the Reds as a 7 ship just doesn't cut the mustard!! The one thing that cheesed me off more than ever was the lack of a mobile signal. In the past I was with EE - no problem - I'm currently with Virgin but no cover at all so I'm switching to Giff Gaff O2 based next week. My problem was that not only could I not contact my mates - by phone call or text - but I couldn't check out all those clearly visible jets flying over on the airways. Heyho rant over! Cheers Keith

Just uploaded to Planebase and worked out I made 104 frames and 6 scrapes, plus 1 frame at Fairoaks on my way home.

Morning Folks,
I’m off to RIAT on Monday, first time for the departures day… Hear good things about Monday’s but I’ll see how it goes.
Will be on a very early start but fingers crossed, I won’t get toasted…
Looking forward to it and Farnborough on Wednesday…
All the best.

Left ours in Runcorn on Friday at 11am- hoping for a nice run to our two night accommodation in Evesham- how wrong was I -a bump on the southbound M6 made me do a cross country trek down the A49- A41 where we discovered the A41 was closed and took a divert past Sleap and through Telford onto the M54 which actually took us through Birmingham onto the M42 what a nightmare traffic wise- as we normally take the toll road- will never moan about paying £7:50 again. Anyway some 4 hours later we arrived at the Premier Inn where we were staying and after dumping the cases in our room it was straight to the bar for a few swift halves before our early booked meal. Then it was an early night- having our breakfast at 07:15 before leaving for the short drive to Fairford- we got to the airfield or should I say close to the airfield at about 08:45 but did not get into the red parking zone till about 10:50- queues were not that bad and we went into the airfield and set up camp near to G-HACS. I then proceeded to walk to the right where the Black Eagles were then walked the static line- not too bad till I got down to where the E4 was and realised that I had to walk back- anyway managed to get back at about 1pm and watched the show. Made up with the Koreans possibly imo the best I have seen. But just my opinion. We decided to leave at just before 4pm having seen the majority of the displays which I wanted too. The drive back to the hotel took just over an hour and after a quick shower it was a few beers and a meal before retiring to our pit at about 21:30. But did see a Balloon out of all places Ragley whilst we were having a drink. Left Evesham this morning at just before ten and arrived home at just after twelve. Fairford was as usual great made over 100 - it was the 8th time I have been- will I go again- cannot say- they would have too put something special on as again it is much of a muchness, and it will be interesting to see how much it goes up next year. Back home and sat in my den- and three in the book already although very hazy skies. Happy Days Bob

Talking of check lists, we were told we couldn't buy one because not all the aircraft had arrived 🙄 his exact words were "we know what you lot are like with regard things like that" not quite sure what that meant but it was £5 the charity didnt get from me on the Friday! Wonder ho much they lost out on with that sort of thinking?

Always some jumped up little Hitler to spoil things Jeff. And the only people he let down apart from himself was the charity.

As you say Jeff they lost money to charity, and also from other years the Cirencester aviation group i believe, but perhaps these were workers who were selling pricy programmes, as in other years they were quite friendly and told you of any movement news... regards, dave...

I lived in Cornwall for ten years in arguably one of the most visited coastal villages, Polperro. It's true what you say dave, a good proportion of the locals, whether just residents or business owners were always slagging off the visitors which I could never understand. Most businesses down there have at best, and assuming the weather plays ball, April till late September to make a year's living. True, there are far more out-of-season visitors these days than there were say 25 years ago but this is partly due to there being a huge number of second home/holiday lets these days. But at least they keep some of the pubs and shops that decide to remain open from October to March relatively busy and worth their while to stay open.
I knew most of the businesses in the villages, some welcomed the visitors with open arms, but some detested them. One pub for example would NEVER serve visitors before they served locals, regardless that the visitors may well have been at the bar first and had been waiting for several minutes.
Plain ignorance and bad manners.

Checklist was only £4 ,I think you just got a JOBSWORTH ,the checklists have always been printed late since I started going in 1977 ,but mainly for the Sat,Sun

Was in thru the gate at about 7.40am, got a good position, easy access to toilets, food outlet and water bowsers…
Full day of departures which started about 8.30 and went right through to 3.45, when we broke camp and went home…
Glad we waited as the Black Eagle’s were almost last to leave and they had the 9th, spare ship, in tow…
This was my first ‘Monday’ at RIAT. Lots of fantastic departures, every single on did a wing-wave goodbye, absolute classic was the Mildenhall based KC-135 - those guys got First Prize…
Weather was an absolute scorcher but fortunately we all survived.
Farnborough on Wednesday - Hey-Ho…..

I got my checklist as I walked through the gate also. Happy Days Bob

hi, whilst the good lady is doing some shopping, i started to look at my log for friday, i don't know if to put part 1, as there's bound to be more . Anyway can any one say where the Jordanian Falcons were parked up, also where was the Italian Avanti parked... i will start you off gently, beware more might come. regards, dave...

Italian Avanti was northside near the other Italian aircraft on that apron. But I could only it from a certain point down the eastern end.
I didn’t see the Jordanian Falcons except when flying. However, every other year they are parked northside and usually hangared for long parts of the day, so presumably the same this year.

For those who had the spotters list the entry for Broussard "30-QA" listed as F-GIBN (c/n 261) was incorrect. It was G-CLLK c/n 5C also marked as "30-QA", this has no military history and acquired the marks whilst in Canada. I have checked my photo and the c/n on the fin is 005.

Thanks for that Graham, in all honesty I put a question mark by the French registration as I had seen G-CLLK on one of the check lists might have been on fighter control on the Threshold arrivals list- might be wrong- but thanks for clearing that one up for us- hope you enjoyed Oshkosh- I'm sure you did- and you did have good weather- was watching most days the EAA live on my computer. Looking forward to the photo's. Happy Days Bob

hi, just been topping up my BAPC list, and noticed 342 and 343 - 2 RAF F.35's one plain gray, and one with the RAF 100 fin, anyone know which was at RIAT 22? with them being plastic and swarms of children all over them, i did not take any photo's...

Morning Dave, I looked on the Planet Avgeek website which is run by Threshold Aero and there's no mention of the BAPC F-35s. I'll have a look over on FCG.

Keith, I have just checked the LAAS display report for RIAT - it shows all the plastic models at the end of the report, there is no F-35 but BAPC-529 BAE Tempest model could that be it? Kevin Grant
