Hi Bob Well the weather down south for next week suggests we are on for a massive heatwave with 30+ temperatures until Friday at least. However - I won't build my hopes up for the Saturday until I see the midweek forecast at least. I was one of those fortunate guys to have VIP tickets for the Royal Review back in I think it was 2008. We were in the grandstand to see the Queen do the biz with the Royal Standards etc - a bit like Trooping the Colour - there were a few flypasts over the parade ground - anyhow, as soon as she got into her Rolls to be driven off for lunch the heavens opened for lunch. Me and my mates who were suited and booted ran across the parade ground to take cover in the back of an RAF Chinook - I reckon we probably set the world record that day as there must have been a good 100+ crammed into the back of that Chinook sheltering from the rain. After lunch, when the Queen came out to watch the massed flypast at about 2-30, it stopped raining and we saw a full flypast - hmmm - is she in touch with the weather gods?? All I know is that the Saturday/Sunday shows were cancelled due to the weather and farmers tractors were very busy dragging hundreds of cars out of the mud. The team I felt really sorry for were from Brazil - I'm not surprised they never came back!!! Cheers Keith Thanks Keith- Hopefully it will not be like that- not too worried even if there is a bit of rain- as it is a fact of life up here int North- looking at the forecast it is looking ok for the Saturday- but as you say things can change - Phil (ZZ) seems to have the Midas touch of picking the right day to go- I don't take a lot of pictures so as long as I can get down the static that will do me- and the rest will be a bonus- the last three RIAT's I have been too have not been fantastic weather wise so as long as I have my coat in the event of a bit of aqua I will be ok- just the missus I worry about- if she gets too cold she just gives me the look- and we will make a quick exit. Keep the faith for next week Happy Days Bob

Hi Bob
Yes I can count myself lucky that I was at the 2008 show on a Friday - as Phil says - there were a lot of rarely seen aircraft there that year. We left shortly after the massed flypast as we were concerned about getting the car out of the mud! Not a problem on the Friday but with persistent overnight rain - I can understand why the weekend was cancelled. The ground down south is so hard this year as we have had very little rainfall - even if it rains next weekend (unlikely) - I doubt very much that mud will be an issue. £7 became the going rate for burgers etc a good 4 years back so I wonder what the going rate might be this year - I've no doubt that after Covid they will try to claw back some money but methinks they will price themselves out of the market! Cheers Keith

Cheers Keith Keith, Yep wherever you go the cost of the food is well over the top, but we are taking food with us, so that won't be a problem- it will be interesting to see how much the programme and the check sheet are this year I think the last check sheet I bought in 2018 was £5 which is a bit steep for a couple of pages. Still showing as cloudy with sunny intervals on Friday and Saturday and all the following week so fingers crossed. Happy Days Bob

Well it looks like the weather Gods have taken pity on us and it looks like it is going to be a good weekend- with blue skies all around- but very hot, with Sunday being the hottest with a warning when it will be in the 90's. Happy Days Bob

That's a blow dave, suppose we will only have 240 aircraft to look at now- and you never know a cheeky surprise or two. It's going to be glorious on Saturday and even hotter on Sunday- have already told my beloved if it gets too much for her heat wise, we can always do an early dart. Good luck with your trains on Friday. I take it you are going to Swindon and then bus to Fairford? Happy Days Bob

hi, just seen this come up on Fighter Control webpage, so credit to them as always... docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing things are warming up (perhaps thats the wrong term), regards, dave... ps i've just tried the link above twice, but its not working, the only difference i can see is on my link the is missing for some reason? pps still not working? so if you go to fighter control forums, then to airshows RIAT, and lastly to Arrivals Wednesdaay 13th july... page 2, post 12, thats the link, a bind but it lists arrivals on wed, thurs, then displays times on show days when available... phew! ;:

RIAT 2022

Something that came up in conversation at Peagasus today was the weather forcast for Sunday and Monday at RIAT. With it being so hot and a Level 4 weather warning possibly being issued where does RIAT stand insurance wise if people start (god forbid) popping their cloggs during the day? If a level 4 warning is issued before the day will they be liable?

With it being so hot and a Level 4 weather warning possibly being issued where does RIAT stand insurance wise if people start (god forbid) popping their cloggs during the day? If a level 4 warning is issued before the day will they be liable? Jeff, RIAT have already sent out an e-mail basically covering the hot weather on Sunday, and also on the Monday when mainly spotters attend to see the departing aircraft- basic stuff really. 1. Keep well Hydrated (Not Ale) 2. Covered Up 3. Wear Head Gear (No a crash hat) 4. Plenty of Sun Tan Cream We have already made our decision that if it becomes too uncomfortable on Saturday that we will make an early exit- straight back to our accommodation for a few beers. I think the secret is to get down the static early doors then settle down for the afternoon and watch the show- regarding who is liable if someone keels over and meets his or her maker- I have not got a clue- I suppose it is like any event you tick the boxes when you buy your tickets accepting the conditions- how many people read those conditions- not many imo. I gather from reading some of the comments on Planes TV YouTube today that burgers are between £7-9 and chips up to £5. I seem to recall paying £7 for a burger about 6 years ago at Farnborough which I thought was outrageous but I suppose after Covid - the traders are doing their best to make ends meet. However - it's made me think of packing a few sarnies and nibbles for Saturday to fill me out in the morning even if I do have to pay extortionate prices for a pint and a burger in the afternoon. The cooler is at the ready and freeze blocks in the freezer.
Have a great day folks! Cheers Keith

If I recall correctly , ALL catering prices are fixed in advance by the organisers and published ( max-min ?) in the program . Purchasers are advised that if a vendor charges over these prices then they are to be reported and presumably some action taken . That's the official line . Personally I do not buy any food nor drinks at the show - that is my choice . Well that was how things were some time back when I was a volunteer ! Individuals must decide if the price is fair pre purchase . Same goes for the gold plated check sheet ! When we sold the check sheet we would either note personally or be told by other enthusiasts , any new arrivals or additions and add them to a displayed board at each sales point for individuals to note or not . Unfortunately those that took over do not continue this . Lets hope for a decent day - which ever one attends . Chrisj

Hi Chris - again from the Planes TV YouTube, somebody suggested that prices for the F1GP at Silverstone were almost double what they might be charging at Fairford - I don't know as I never went! Anyhow the warning is out there to expect high prices for junk food> Cheers. Keith who will buying a pint or two.

Cool bag at the ready for Saturday with freezer blocks bottles of water and coke at the ready with our crisps, where we stay on Friday and Saturday there is a garage and we will stock up on a pasty or two with some sausage rolls, and if we see a subway on the way to Fairford maybe a cheeky sandwich, but for me the full breakfast we have in the morning is well enough. Beer well hell no- usually warm so will give that a miss albeit I am driving- and I will wait till I get back to the hotel on Saturday night. But have a great day or days chaps and chappesses- have seen the Threshold list that Phil (ZZ) put on yesterday and 30+ of those are needed so looks like a good day all round when the full compliment arrive. Happy Days Bob

Agree, already made half a dozen US P-8s this year, but there won’t be many chances to see the Swedish 105s again. And likewise, ZP802 is one of only 2 RAF Poseidons I’ve seen (although it was an overflight…)

Happy Days Bob hi, i'm sorry about the USN Poseidon if only about the ones i've seen most turned out to be unidentifable, ie mode-s-serial? but these here now the flt code = serial mostly, only problem is i don't see many now!!! also our P.8's same as you ZP802, seen about 4times now... ah well there's always the next one. Well as they said on Hill Street Blues "take care out there" stay safe and above all enjoy yourselves... regards, dave...

It is always a pity when some get cancelled but probably inevitable . I seem to be slightly better off for RAF P8s than those who have contributed as I have seen all but two as overflights only . BUT the RAF Phenom is one from previous shows and for me is the one which comes over more often than not - so some we win , some we lose ! As for entrance price , a subject which crops up every year - whilst a volunteer and at the evening bash we cornered the then director as it was thought £25 was too much for entrance !!! Reply was that the entrance fee was not based on actual costs but rather than average family entrance to a theme park ! So there we are . Let us hope the show goes well and we all get from it what we wish .. Enjoy your day(s) .. Chrisj

Dave, I never realised you were a Cornish boy. I was down there for three days last week, for work rather than pleasure unfortunately, but all around the Par/St Blazey/Pentewan/Mevagissey area was my parents' favourite part of the Duchy and it rubbed off on me. I remember as a young child, maybe five or six camping on Par beach, being woken every morning by the milk train rattling across the metal railway bridge on its way to Fowey, and walking from the beach every morning to a milk bar called "Brewers" on Par Green. The shop by the level crossing which is Richards these days was a fresh fish shop in the 60s and 70s owned by a lovely chap called Des Matthews. Des would lend my dad his huge, robust prawning net and we'd spend a morning on Spit Beach ( which you reached then by walking under the railway lines) exploring the low tide rock pools whilst dad caught our tea. Just great memories....

hi Graham, no i'm Newcastle under Lyme born and bred Gods country... but this year as others we take our tourer down to Penetwan beach site, its just fell that mid fortnight was RIAT. Had a interesting journey to the show, 0553 St.Austell to Reading cancelled no driver! that set me 1hr back, Then the connection was 30mins late so got to the show at 1220, head down thru the static caught the free bus to the west end park entrance and the young lady bus driver slowed right down so the a/c in that blocked off area could be photoed, bless her. Then back to the bus at 1500, 1557 train to Bristol templemeads arrived 5 mins late, but my connection to St.Austell was 20mins late so that was good. Got back to St.Austell 2028, a very tired but happy bunny. but next year God willing i will try to be somewhere closer to Swindon... regards, dave...
