Well, the first of this year's caravan visits has begun. Coming up on a Sunday made quite a difference traffic-wise and it was a very pleasant 170 miles (approx).

Been raining most of the day. Not very encouraging!!
Mildenhall Arrival 12.40BST "ABX2270" N312AA B762 ABX Air
Departures 09.05BST "RCH962" 63-7995 14.54BST "ABX2270" N312AA................to Ramstein
"KNIFE72" CV-22B 12-0065 flying in the morning (and evening) saved me the job of trying to read off the ones on their pans. This completes the based stuff for me. Otherwise just a bit of Special Ops based stuff flying and a couple of missions by the '135s. Not a lot really.
Lakenheath Made the trip up to see the Turkish C-130E 70-1947 and there were some F-15 movements.

Hi Bob
I’m intending to call in at Mildenhall on Friday.
If any visitors I need are there I’ll come in the morning, so I don’t miss them. Otherwise I’ll probably come in the evening.
Hoping to see some of my last 4 based Ospreys (one is at Berlin so should see that tomorrow) and last based KC.135. I’m also hoping a couple of the visiting KC.10s and KC.135 that I need might hang around. Although someone has suggested the 135 might be off soon.... we’ll see...
Maybe see you Friday
Phil

Hi Phil,
Virtually all of the Ospreys are on the line nowadays. Be careful though, there are a couple of new stands that are round the corner and cannot be seen from John's Field/Pollards Lane. They can be seen from the pull-in opposite "SOG Row" (on the back lane) or from Folly Road.
Hope you don't need either of KC-135s 10288 or 80100 as they are on TDY in Spain. Quite a few based '135s are missing at present, we are a bit thin on the ground.
I'll post today's log shortly, but there are 4 KC-10s in!!!
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks Bob No, the based 135 is 00333. The visiting ones I’m hoping will stay are KC.135- 71472, and KC.10s 30081 and 70121.
I take it you’re in John’s Field again?

Somewhat more lively today - and it yielded me two!!
Wednesday 25th April 2018
Mildenhall Arrivals 07.28BST "BLUE82" 87-0121 KC-10A 305AMW 07.32BST "BLUE81" 83-0082 KC-10A 305AMW 09.17BST "NAF61" V-11 Gulf IV 334 Sqdn/KLu..........did two approaches and landed on the ythird one at 09.41BST 10.05BST "BLUE13" 83-0081 KC-10A 305AMW 10.39BST "BLUE91" 83-0075 KC-10A 60AMW 13.01BST "FAF6443" E163/705-RB Alpha Jet French AF.............single T/G only and departed to Leuchars 13.18BST "FAF6444" E166/705-RW Alpha Jet French AF..............single ILS approach only........confirmed by photograph, but showing on ADS-B as E46
Departure 11.20BST "NAF61" V-11
I would guess that "BLUE13" is to take the two remaining Saudi F-15SAs onwards. What the other three are for, I have no idea - but must be fairly big!!
Lakenheath Departure 10.09BST "TUAF404" 70-1947
EDIT:- Just seen a post on FC - yes, it is back up - the two Saudi F-15s did a PD at RAF Valley as "CLUSTER51/52" this afternoon. I did hear them on the radio, but thought they just ordinary "LN"s!!. So, it looks like they are departing in the next couple of days.

Thanks Bob No, the based 135 is 00333. The visiting ones I’m hoping will stay are KC.135- 71472, and KC.10s 30081 and 70121. I take it you’re in John’s Field again? Yes, I'm in my caravan in John's Field again - on the rank by the road.
00333 is present - at the moment.
71472 (being the "NACHO") should be departing on Saturday with a new one arriving the same day, but don't hold me to that!!
As for the KC-10s, they could go tomorrow (if they have got enough rest time after the transatlantic flight), but equally they could go on Friday. I would not like to hazard a guess.
So, see what I report for tomorrow. If the KC-10s haven't gone........come early.
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks again

Yes, the KC-10s were busy taking the GAF Typhoons and Tornados to CONUS (to Green Flag?). The new one is parked by the main road.
71472 is parked near the tower as is the new arrival 80047.
00333 is parked up by Folly Road (HS 16 - from the gate there look slightly to the left behind the nearest buildings). Remember that it has MPRS pods to aid its identification.
To be honest, I have no idea if the Saudis are out (on Charlie) or not. I haven't walked the field since the day before they came in (to get the 1st Oregon).
Cheers,
Bob

Thursday 26th April 2018
Mildenhall Well, today saw all our overnight visiting KC-10s disappear to take GAF Typhoons and Tornados to Bangor IAP,ME and subsequently onwards - but we got another one in. The visiting RC-135V that was in for a bit of "spannering" departed back to the Med.
Arrivals 10.55BST "BLUE12" 83-0080 KC-10A 60AMW 13.13BST "DUKE31" 84-00162 C-12U E/1-214AVN.............did two land, taxi round and depart into circuit before final departure after the 2nd landing 16.28BST "BLUE85" 58-0047 KC-135T 22ARW............missed approach at 16.13 due wind shear

Friday 27th April 2018
A totally uninspiring day with all the rain - I can imagine what Noah must have felt like. It has temporarily stopped at the moment, but will start again later and go through to lunchtime tomorrow.
Great to meet Phil ("zz") this morning. Unfortunately, the really decent visitors had already disappeared before he arrived as the two remaining F-15SAs at Lakenheath and their KC-10 departed at 07.30BST on their delivery to Saudi Arabia.
14 of the 493FS F-15C/Ds returned to Lakenheath from North Africa (and Aviano?) early this afternoon. I have updated the based list accordingly.
Mildenhall Departures 07.31BST "BLUE12" 83-0080 13.20BST "BLUE85" 58-0047
Lakenheath Just six missions were flown this morning - and that was it for the day
Arrivals 14.10BST "REAPER05/06/01/02/03/04" 86-0163, 86-0176, 84-0010, 84-0046 (F-15D), 84-0015 and 86-0174 14.29BST "GRIM01/02/03/04" 84-0019, 86-0178, 86-0164 and 84-0001 14.46BST "BULLET01/02/03/04" 86-0156, 86-0175, 86-0166 and 86-0154 Departures 07.30BST ("RETRO63" 12-1023 )..........delivery to Saudi Arabia ("RETRO64" 12-1054 )
All this leaves us with just three visitors between the two bases:- - at Lakenheath is the hangared Oregon ANG F-15C 84-0021. - at Mildenhall are the TDY Grissom KC-135R 57-1472 (which should depart tomorrow and be replaced by another one from a different AFRC unit) plus the TDY RC-135V 64-14844.

Last evening, I saw "SAME40" on ADS-B trekking NE across the US and I thought that it would do its usual flight up to New England and then about turn and return to Texas. Little did I expect that........
Saturday 28th April 2018 Just got up and I hadn't even switched on the laptop when the 1st movement of the day went past my window for Rwy 11. What an eye-popping surprise!!

We didn't get any of the forecast rain after the early hours, but a very strong (and bitterly cold) cross wind put paid to most movements until the SOG came out to play this evening after it had died back to reasonable levels. One brave KC-135 managed to escape.
Mildenhall Departure 10.27BST "RCH894" 57-1427

Scarcely worth recording.
Departure 11.37BST "RCH607" 62-3565
The two KC-10s should have gone but one ("RCH165"/79-1947) declared himself "broke" but was able to taxi from the AMC Terminal to HS12 (by the main road). The other one ("RCH795"/85-0027) had such a faffing around with his flight plan and required take-off time that "it looks like we'll be staying another night".
Hopefully, tomorrow will see a bit more activity. Been here a fortnight and not a single C-17 or C-5 has come into the 'Hall. What is the world coming to???

Been able to identify a few of the F-15s, Bob. Unable to match them with the callsigns though.
Got 84-0010, 86-0174 & 86-0175, yet to find the rest.

F-15 serials have now been identified and are entered above in red.
Credit SMAS mailing list for the serials and callsign tie-ups.

Mildenhall Obviously Lakenheath "got their finger out" and mended the pothole overnight. There was a mass launch of all 14 F-15s, which delayed the departing RC-135V as it had to wait for the cables to be de-rigged (there is not a lot of inches between its belly aerials and the ground). At the same time, Lakenheath were launching their own sorties.
