Well, the sun's shining here in Devizes as the country celebrates Queen Elizabeth's 70th Anniversary of her accession in 1952. For most of us, we've never known anything different, some have no time for the monarchy, others like me think she's been the best ambassador this country has ever had during her faultless reign so I send you my heartfelt congratulations Your Majesty and long may you reign!

Fully agree with your comments Graham- but I wonder if she may decide to put her feet up after this weekend is over and hand over the mantle to Charles and Camilla.? Happy Days Bob

A couple today either side of my visit to Sleap. Not much in the way of blue sky, but at least it didn't rain. I managed to photograph HB-JDF at 35000ft and read the regn under the wing.

Had a great day today. Arrived at Heathrow at about 07.30 and made 30 there, plus 12 overflights!
Then went to Northolt and made a couple there, including a US Army C-35 Citation. Next stop Ruislip Gardens for a tube ride into London to see the flypast- looks like I made 10 there if postings on FC are correct.
Then a quick drive up to Ragley Hall for Midlands Air Festival. We caught some of the air display, then the evening launch and night glow. I think 126 balloons were seen, of which I needed 22.
Looking forward to tomorrow morning’s launch and tether- after that the weather looks like it could write off any more ballooning for the weekend!

Looks like you did have a good day Phil, myself I made two up here in cloudy Runcorn:- N782SP- DC8 Eastbound N418DX- A330 Delta eastbound Then it was packing out weekend bags for Ragley- leaving home Friday morning with a couple of stop offs and hopefully see the evening launch, then hopefully the Saturday morning launch as the predicted weather forecast has changed to being dry and sunny although Saturday night may change with the increase in the wind. Sunday though looks like it maybe a mare- with rain all day- so may bite the bullet and head home then. But we do have our National Trust cards- and hopefully the beer and food will be nice where we are staying, and it will be nice to get away with my beloved for a couple of days. Boy does she need it. June has got off to a brilliant start for me, double digits achieved two days running, but looking at the cloud so far this morning, I feel this might come to an abrupt halt..

127 balloons seen this morning at Ragley, with a tethering slot at 10am. 6 new for me this morning to add to the 20 yesterday.
After lunch the forecast looks like it may rule out any mass launches, so may have to change plans- hopefully it’s wrong!!

Thanks for the update- Phil, that is always the problem- the weather with balloons, but fingers, legs, toes crossed it at least stays dry for Saturday even if I only see one balloon it will be 100% more than I have seen this year so far. Its pouring down here in Runcorn. Will be heading down to Alcester about eleven but will more than likely not bother with going down to Ragley this evening- may just stay at the bar, Happy Days Bob

A slow start to June over Aldershot with only PA28R G-BYHJ being seen on the 1st & another PA28 G-BICW on the 2nd. Much better today (3rd) with these noted over the top and one bagged: PA28 G-WWAL, OWAR, BOHO, ODAK, BMFP, BNEE, BPAY, GYTO; DR400 G-BEUP; PA32 G-TTEC; P2002 G-UCAN; Ce150 G-BNHJ; ATR *G-IACY (i/b FAB). You could say it's been a veritable PA28 fest so far!
In my experience the wind is the biggest weather enemy for balloons. You could have an otherwise lovely sunny day, but if it's too breezy (approx 10 knots or more) they're unlikely to fly them.

After spending yesterday morning at Midlands Air Festival it became obvious that no balloons were going to appear for the rest of the day, so we headed off to Wolverhampton. Despite having a good look round this time last year, I still made 8 this time. I’ll post a log soon. Then on to Birmingham for a couple of hours, where another 13 were needed.
This morning we gave Ragley Hall a miss and instead went to a small museum that Id never been to before- Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre, Wolverhampton. It’s only a small collection jammed into a tiny building but some interesting bits and pieces and I made another 5. So with Heathrow, Northolt, London flypast, Ragley Hall and these visits, over 100 were made across the long weekend!

Well Radley was a bit of a disaster weather wise- just made one that being the Juno ZM531 which brought the commentator for the Red Arrows show in- no balloons as Phil predicted but I was aware of that due to e-mail being received on Friday night. On saturday a couple of envelopes were laid out one blue and one of the one man balloons which a guy called Steve was doing a talk about. We managed to see the reds and we left around one o'clock after seeing Otto- also as I needed nothing else in the display apart from the Mustang and also it was cold. We had initially booked into our accommodation for three nights- but decided over breakfast to take the hit and go home after visiting Radley. We did visit Bidford on Friday and Halfpenny Green on Saturday on the way home- so all was not lost. Roll on RIAT although one more trip out in a couple of weeks time- most expensive petrol £1:96 Stafford Services- Thieves. Happy Days Bob

I agree Dave- That windfall tax that the Gov put on the oil companies etc is being added to our petrol prices- no wonder Sunak and his mates can give a few bob in October albeit in stages he is getting that back by the tax he is getting off the petrol. Happy Days Bob

We have two Asian run/owned large Esso garages here in Devizes, plus a small Texaco one. The local guys who run the Texaco place are very friendly, and are usually 4p or 5p a litre cheaper than the Essos who sell at the same prices as each other. When the Chancellor's 5p reduction was announced, the Texaco reduced their prices as soon as the next bulk delivery arrived, but the Essos didn't and haven't done at all. They speak to you as if you're a piece of s***, you never get a thank you or any form of pleasantry. You'd think that the town's drivers would flock to the Texaco but unfortunately they must have much smaller tanks and only four pumps compared to both Essos having eight so the Texaco tends to run out of fuel after which you have no option but to use the Essos.

Same over the former tropical paradise of Aldershot. Nowt but dull, overcast skies today. Saw on TV that there will be no second fly-past of the Red Arrows for the masses gathered around Buckingham palace & Pall Mall to enjoy, presumably that's down to the weather too.
