Well August started off nice with wall to wall blue skies during which time the below listed six hit the books- but the weather gods soon changed its tune when shortly after dinner time it clouded over and in the early evening the aqua started to fall and fall very heavily- and this morning as I type this - it is even falling more heavier- I wondered why the weather people and the news channels had stopped talking about a drought- well defiantly no drought up here anyway enough of my whinging here is the six I got yesterday:- D-AIJC- A320N Lufthansa east out of DUB 5B-DDQ- A320 Cyprus AW ops for Air Baltic west to DUB G-KMTE- Sr22 south on low level route out of BPL TC-LJP- 777 Turkish eastbound N250JC- F900EX westbound OK-HAR- C560XLS westbound Do not think anything will be added to the list today:- Talking about holidays Graham always nice to get away we have booked four nights away in Torquay bed and Breakfast in a nice hotel in September for only £900 smackeroos - so much for the cheap staycations - but its a break I suppose. Happy Days Bob

Had the reverse with the weather yesterday Bob,wall to wall cloud until late afternoon when I too logged half a dozen.

We are in desparate need of the wet stuff and we have heard rumours that a hosepipe ban could be introduced as from this Friday,at the moment it is again wall to wall cloud but the forecast suggests that it will clear and it could be warmer than yesterday.

Not a great start to August but, to be honest, with my trip to the States in May, I’m having a stinking year….
However, back to August 1st - I made the following;
N27LX Gulf 550 OTT 14.29 N2LA Gulf 650 OTT 14.43 YL-ABG A220-300 Air Baltic ex LGW 19.01
2 frames and 1 scrape…
Cheers fellas.

I have a large garden water bucket in the back garden about three foot high by the same width, and it is full to the top, gallons of aqua. I know some places in the south have struggled, but not up here. Had three hot days and the world has ended. Re hosepipe ban's they have one currently in the Isle of Man- for gods sake it rains almost non stop there. Oh! and I'm not going to Bristol for the Fiesta- so its bound to be nice then. A blue sky start to yesterday with nothing of interest coming through, but soon enough clouded over which has been the pattern hereabouts now for weeks. The low cloud blanket persists today unfortunately. So, a sluggish start to August

Looking at the long range weather forecast Dave- it is looking good with just moderate breezes currently but we know that can change. The last two Fiesta's I have been too have been disappointing with only a few being tethered. But I have had one decent one when a 100plus went into the sky. However too far for me to go to take that chance. But do hope it is good for you and the other guys who attend. Happy Days Bob

Bob, we were all set and paid up for a fortnight in Zakynthos in 2019. Then our Springer Spaniel Dougie shot his cruciate ligament in his left rear leg, big operation, titanium implant, followed by 10 weeks of recuperation which fell right into our proposed holiday so we had no option but to cancel. We love him to bits and he's worth every penny but it does mean we haven't touched foreign shores since 2018. We have had a couple of domestic trips to Cornwall and North Devon but nothing beats that waft of hot air as the cabin crew open the doors after landing in Crete or Rhodes.

Graham- We are the same- should have gone to Lanzarote -then Covid arrived- moved it to the following year no change- moved it to Cyprus, then Jan was diagnosed with breast cancer so moved again back to Lanzarote next April because she was still having her treatment- we were also due to go in September to Austria on a coach with our friends, but we cancelled that mainly because two days on a coach either way would have been too much for her- so it has been North Yorkshire and Torquay next month for the time being. But I agree cannot beat getting to the airport going through check out- duty free, then a nice pint of two while waiting to fly- then arriving at the destination and its hot and we never moan about it- priceless. Happy Days Bob

August has started well here, three frames on the 1st and eight yesterday. A bit overcast here this morning but forecast is to brighten up around 11am. Three of the new Apaches have been based at Middle Wallop, and ZM714 was the last one I needed.

At the moment it is again wall to wall cloud but the sun is doing it's best to breakthrough.

Thursday 4th…
Well my day started with an alarm call at 04.30am. My daughter and some friends were off to Dublin for the weekend and I’d volunteered to take then to LHR for the first flight of the day with Aer Lingus… So being up so early I decided to run up to Mildenhall and Lakenheath to try and see the rumoured departure of the F-22 Raptors which were due to leave for Eastern Europe. Dave (basing) had also mentioned that a new Hercules was due to arrive at Mildenhall… I’m not going to lie, my success rate for these type of adventures is not great, but today it was spot on. So here’s the log.
Mildenhall (arrived 07.20am) 62-4138 RC-135 USAF 62-4134 RC-135 USAF 20-5941 MC-130J USAF
Lakenheath (arrived 08.30am) 91-1652 C-130H USAF (departed to Aviano) the Raptors had been rumoured to be leaving between 10am and Noon, and they were spot on. 10.15 the first wave of four departed; 05-4090 (90 FTS), 06-4110 (AF), 05-4103 (103), 07-4136. 11.00 the second wave left as scheduled; 07-4144, 07-4149, 09-4190, 07-4138. at 12.15 the third wave got away; 10-4193 (WG), 04-4074, 06-4112, 07-4151.
We then heard that at 13.00 there would be 6 F-35’s departing. So we sat down for a period and almost to the minute, 4 F-35’s started to taxi out but with 5 F-15’s - so the place was becoming very busy. Shortly there after another F-15 joined the queue with another 2 F-35’s. So these included; F-35’s: 20-5574, 20-5573, 20-5570, 19-5486, 20-5571, 20-5572 all coded LN. F-15’s: 01-2004, 01-2002, 91-0309, 91-0314 (494th), 01-2003, 00-3002 (I didn’t need any of these…
I also made 59-1466 KC-135 which went into MHZ at 10.43 and D-AIBN A319 Lufthansa (OTT).
I got underway at approximately 13.15 and was back home at Deepcut by 15.22, which was a fantastically quick trip.
Sadly I still need 14 based F-15’s!!
Great spending a few hours with Jeff & Theresa and Phil (ZZ) plus Geoff and Steve.
Bill
EDIT: forgot to add HB-VPX PC-24 which departed FAB at 17.14.

Yes nice to see you and Jeff, Bill
A fantastic morning and well worth the early start. At Lakenheath I needed all 12 F-22s, 5 of the F-35s and the C-130. At Mildenhall I needed the new C-130, the C-17 and my last based Osprey 0042. I also made the overflying Belgian A400 CT03.
I intended to go home via Earls Colne and Andrewsfield as I hadn’t been to either for nearly 20 years. Then I noticed some of the new Apaches showing on FR24 so I decided to try Wattisham. I only made ZM710 there so wasn’t really worth the effort. Then made another couple at Earls Colne- I’ll post the small log tomorrow. But I was running late then, so missed Andrewsfield and headed home. Final cop was TC-LGF A.350 departing LHR as I was queued on the M25!
A successful day!
