With an annoying amount of cloud around today and patches of blue scarce until very late afternoon, I was lucky to add two to the monthly log.

Last week, I went to see my Mum who had been clearing a lot of stuff out following my Dad's passing. We'd been chatting for an hour or so when she got out of her chair and said, "oh, I've got something of yours" and disappeared into the spare bedroom. Back she came with a Brown & Polson Cornflour cardboard box loosely tied up with very brown old string and upon opening it, there were all my logs covering the period from 1968 through until 1978.
What a find - I had always assumed these were lost forever but it seems that when I first got married in 1979, she cleared my old room out and placed the logs into this box and stored them at the back of a wardrobe where they became forgotten over the decades. It was rather surreal to think that the last time I opened up these books, I was a mere lad of 22.
There are logs there from predominantly military shows - Abingdon, Benson, Culdrose, Colerne, Lyneham, Upper Heyford, Fleetlands, Kemble, Portland, Lee on Solent, Yeovilton, Greenham Common, Brize Norton, Boscombe Down, etc plus a few Biggin Hills and Farnboroughs for good measure. They will take some sorting out and some logging but once I've made a start, I will post a few on the "old logs" sub forum. Who knows, some of you chaps may well have been at those shows.

Thanks lads, you could have knocked me down with a feather. Seems like 1970-1974 were very busy years looking at the logs, lots of shows attended during that time frame. I passed my driving test in early 1973 so after that, I no longer relied upon public transport or the good nature of my Dad to get to the shows.
Just looking through them, there is a staggering amount of UK military there, 100s and 100s of registrations including Vulcans, Victors, Ligntnings, Javelins, Sea Vixens, Sea Hawks, Meteors and Canberras. Found a log of a show at Chivenor in August 1972 where I logged 54 Hunters.

Great result, Graham! No chance I will find my light and military logs for 1965-1984, were definitely not at my mum's place (she died in 1997). I too went to a number of military shows, and had a large number of USAF transports and fighters from visits to Mildenhall and Lakenheath (when I lived in Cambridge) and overflights (when I lived in Cornwall). At least I retained my airliner and biz logs for the period (not sure why!)

I'm truly amazed Jerry. I don't think for one moment that my Mum realised they were there, after all, she must have boxed the logs up shortly after I left home in mid 1979, and then stuck them in the bottom of the wardrobe. She still lives in the same house as she did all those years ago so they have lain there, untouched for 37 years. Shows how often she clears out the wardrobes!
